Day 1

26 May

For God has not given me a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power, love and self-discipline (2 Tim 1:7).

This is my life verse. It always speaks to me and challenges me to be brave, to be bold, to be better. The self-discipline part is the part that always pushes my guilt-o-meter though. You see, I am a chronic procrastinator and perfectionist to the point of complete inaction. I just need to do it. I am also the ultimate self-talk justification expert: “I will do it, I just need to watch TV for a little bit first.” “Come on, I deserve it.” “My throat is a little bit dry, maybe I’m getting a cold, I wouldn’t want to pass it on to Joey (my baby) so I might just sit this one out” I just need to do it.

I’m sick of it and have put myself on notice. I figure the best way to learn self-discipline is to be in a situation that requires a lot of it and then stay accountable. I have a feeling my new mantra may come up a time or two as well: I just need to do it.

I’m running the 5.7 Km in the Gold Coast Marathon in 35 days so here I go; no more excuses. God has given me the desire to be disciplined and His spirit is in me to enable me to do it. Lord, lead on!

Daily log: ran 25 mins (very slowly, pushing stroller)

35 Days of Discipline

25 May

In 36 days I plan to run in the 5.7km race of the Gold Coast Marathon. The problem is…I haven’t started training yet. In order to actually make this happen, I need someone or something to keep me accountable.

In the far reaches of my mind an idea began to brew, maybe I could blog my progress! After all, I do have a blog…somewhere. Blogger? No that one was cancelled. tumblr? No, never actually started one there. Ah, yes, WordPress. Now to remember the password. Maybe it was…no, or…not quite, umm…not even close, it has to be… bingo, I was in. Last post: February, 2011! A lot has changed since then, I now have a nearly five month old baby. Welcome back to the world of blogging Kate!!

Now, I’m off to bed to over-think how amazing this blog is going to be…and visualize the race, of course. Day 1 tomorrow.
